Leviton ODS15-IDW Decora Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor
This switch features a
self-adjusting occupancy sensor to provide the appropriate lighting.

Adjustable Lighting for Multiple Settings
When this switch is installed, lights will turn on as motion is detected, providing a safe environment for personnel who might otherwise walk into a darkened room. Change the settings and the switch relies on ambient light before switching on. A manual override makes it possible to toggle the lights on or off like a regular switch, or set a manual on/auto off to satisfy certain building codes.

The ODS15 has adjustable blinders so you can get only the PIR sensitivity you need. You can save additional energy by changing the delayed-off from 30 minutes to 30 seconds with the time delay adjustment. For supreme user convenience, this switch requires a single screwdriver for easy installation.

No More Blackouts and No Unnecessary Lighting
Factory set for a 10-minute delayed-off time, the switch self-adjusts up to 30 minutes to compensate for real-time occupancy patterns. It beeps three times as a warning shortly before shutting off the lights, giving you a chance to reactivate the sensor. The unit also offers a walk-through feature that shuts lights off after momentary occupancy, providing increased energy savings.

Durable and Versatile Design
The ODS15 is compatible with both electronic and magnetic ballasts. The sensor switches on or off at the zero crossing point of the AC power curve for contact durability and compatibility with electronic ballasts. Useful with 120- to 227-volt lighting, the circuitry in this switch is specifically designed to handle today’s high inrush of electronic ballast loads. For retrofitting into older wiring systems, neutral-free wiring is an option.

This product comes with a manufacturer’s limited five-year warranty.

Picked up some of these, along with the dual relay switch of the same family … Leviton ODS0D-IDW Dual-Relay, Decora Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor, 180 Degree, 2100 sq ft Coverage, White
… for use around the house. Besides being commercial duty instead of just residential duty, they are relay based, so CFLs work fine on these.

Unlike other occupancy sensors, these have one very nice feature – adjustable ambient light detection. In the auto-on mode, it’ll only turn on the light if there’s insufficient ambient light (ie. it’s dark out) and won’t if there is enough light (ie. daylight through the windows). Likewise, it can be completely disabled for manual-on/auto-off operation only (Title 24). The coverage is excellent and sensitive – you walk into the room, and it knows you’re there, unlike some cheaper ones in which you’d almost have to dance right in front of the sensor for it to detect anything. Even at the far end of the hallway here, over 20 feet away, it can detect motion. If you don’t want that much range or angle coverage, you can adjust those down too.

Style wise, it’s nice that the sensor isn’t like some pucker mouth protrusion as with some other models. It is sleekly integrated with the rest of the switch.

Installation wise, NO neutral wire is required. A common ground wire still is, however. It is wider and deeper than a regular switch, though, so you may have issues if your j-box is small.

Minor nit – the time delays are preset. Too minor to ding a star, though – the other features, besides the fact that IT WORKS, more than justify the 5 stars.

I tried a couple different motion detector switches from Home Depot prior to buying this one. None of them were as sensitive or could be configured as much as the Leviton. It is so easy to change the settings and it is well worth trying a few to see what works best for the room situation. My only nit-picky complaint is that you can’t change the time-out settings in between the pre-set times (5, 10, 15 minutes). However, my family has gotten used to hearing the beeps before the lights go out and know to move before it happens. The other switches were cheaper, but my family has no complaints about this one.

Love these. I’ve tried different cheaper alternatives, but they either failed or didn’t offer enough coverage. I finally bought 2 of these about 2 years ago, one of them failed after a year, but I got a replacement the second one seems to run solid. One is for bathroom and another one is for garage. Excellent coverage and performance. Works with LEDs and Florescent lights.

I rate this an excellent buy!
