The 26th edition of Intersec is set to take place on 14-16 January 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
Intersec 2025 has announced that the main topic of the Security Leaders’ Summit will be addressing the human risks involved in supply chains.
Security leaders are set to explore the the relationship associated with human actions and supply chain security.
Supply chain faults in the Middle East
Middle Eastern companies are facing increasing vulnerabilities in their supply chains due to human behaviour.
Organisations in the Middle East face specific challenges where supply chain risks are compounded by the region’s unique geopolitical and economic dynamics.
Many organisations fail to assess the risks posed by by their lowest tier suppliers which can eventually lead to a potential snowball effect.
Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director, Messe Frankfurt Middle East said: “As supply chains become increasingly complex and intertwined, understanding the the risks and implementing effective security measures are paramount.
“This session [Intersec 2025] will provide invaluable guidance for organisations looking to fortify their supply chain security.”
“Humans are fallible and make mistakes”
Human actions have been announced as the most critical risk for supply chain security in the region, a top UK government advisor claims.
“The primary risk in any supply chain is not just the failure of security controls, but the fact that humans are fallible and make mistakes simply because they are human,” said Stuart Frost, BEM, Head of Enterprise Security and Risk Management within UK Government.
Frost explained that security is usually secondary in contract awards due to it being overshadowed by business, financial and commercial priorities.
He continued by addressing that whilst business is essential, it rarely drives contract decision, making thorough risk analysis crucial for informed decision making about business imperatives and ensuring balance.
Frost stated: “Supply chain breaches can threaten the very survival of an organisation and, if resilience is not built into the system, the organisation might not be able to recover.
“Post contract assurance should be performed at least annually to ensure the controls are still effective and the risk position is managed.”
