Quite usable,at least for wireless transmitters in the MHz range,
Ok. I can’t absolutely attest that it works for `wireless mic bugs’. But I did a test (which I’ll describe in a moment), that seemed to imply that it was working well. But first, you need to know that the (“big C”) manual is TOTALLY UNINTELLIGIBLE. It’s the worst ching-glish I’ve ever read. Next, I still do not know what the red strobing LED’s are supposed to do. The manual seems to `imply’ that you look though the `lens / window’ in the unit; then turn on the red flashing LEDs (and the three different `flash/strobe’ rates are not explained in any way in the manual..i.e. as to ‘when’ to use which speed/rate.); then I THINK you are supposed to be able to see a hidden camera somehow. I dunno…as I only tried it for hidden wireless microphones. For that purpose, I DID figure it out. You turn on the sliding side switch to either the first setting which is an audible alert should it find a wireless transmitter, and the next sliding setting is a vibration alert for a silent vibe alert to a nearby wireless mic. Then there’s, what appears to be, a thumb-controlled wheel which you can set for wide area coverage, or move it to narrow coverage…to pinpoint the exact location of the microphone…rather than just get a general alert to a microphone somewhere in the area (i.e. in the wide area coverage). And then…and this is not explained at all in the manual, but you cannot hold this device `motionless’. I found that by a moderate sweep side-to-side, up-and-down, back-and-forth, will it only pick up a `bug’. And just how did I find out if it was working at all…as I found no `bugs’ at home? A lucky guess. I first tried it on my wireless home phone but that transmits in the gigahertz range, and this device is limited to the megahertz range. But then I remembered…I have two RADIO CONTROLLED toy electric helicopters with radio frequency transmitters in the 20MHz amd 40MHz frequency ranges (as opposed to the more common infrared-controlled toy heli’s). So I turned on the helicopter’s control transmitters, and then, despite having the bug detector set to wide coverage, I had to get within (approximately) 3 feet of the transmitters, but then the alarm sounded like a champ! Switching to narrow coverage didn’t help much…as, in that setting, I simply had to move closer to the transmitters to get the alarms to work. But work they did! So, for wireless microphones in the megahertz range, I can testify that this device is useful. I hope this helps someone. And if you can figure out how the hidden camera/flashing red LED and `window’ is supposed to function, please let others know in your review. Thanks.

It does indeed pick up RF signals from various wireless devices. Can anyone provide a good explanation on what and how the LED’s are and work?

|Easy to Use, Seems to Work, and Elegant,
Elegant little device. So you put in the batteries and it finds your wireless network, so you know it’s working. Then you turn your house off — turn off the main circuit breakers in your house, like OFF. Your house is DEAD. And you walk all around with this gizmo you just bought, and you don’t have any hotspots, as I didn’t — or maybe you will. At least you’ll know. I have a certain confidence that if there WERE any intruders — you know, bugs — this little gizmo would sense them. I’ve got a feeling that capabilities like this were pretty expensive until not that long ago; this is what you can STILL hire a pro to do for about two grand. I’ll never know if the pro would have found stuff that I didn’t find.
